DIY Sushi



  • 2 cups sushi rice
  • 1/3 cup rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Nori seaweed (for sushi rolls)

Filling options:

  • cucumber avocado, asparagus, green onion, carrots, sprouts, lettuce, capsicum, spring onion, radish, sweet potato, tofu, canned tuna, pineapple, mango, apple, pear, cooked shrimp, raw sashimi grade salmon or tuna, smoked salmon, cream cheese

Topping options:

  • Roe, soy sauce, pickled ginger, wasabi


  1. Cook rice as directed on packet.

  2. Mix 1/3 cup rice vinegar with 1 teaspoon sugar and 1/2 teaspoon of salt.

  3. Pour over rice and fluff with a fork. Adjust salt and sugar seasoning as desired.

  4. Prepare a bamboo sushi mat with a layer of plastic wrap over it to keep the mat clean. Lay a sheet of nori on top.

  5. Use a spoon to spread a thin layer of rice on the nori sheet.

  6. Place your fillings of choice near one end, in a pile. Roll it up tightly. Slice with a sharp knife.

  7. Remove pastic wrap and enjoy with your choice of toppings .
